Watershed Assessment Services Including Watershed Boundary Delineation

SGS can acquire, generate, or map GIS data necessary for a watershed assessment. GIS data for use in watershed assessments can include stream networks mapped via GPS, stream network GIS data acquired as represented on USGS Topographic Maps or county soil survey maps, jurisdictional wetlands delineated onsite and mapped via GPS, wetlands GIS data acquired from the National Wetlands Inventory or other sources, soils GIS data, Digital Elevation Models (DEMs), etc. A critical aspect to any watershed assessment is the delineation of the watershed boundary. SGS uses ArcHydro for ArcGIS to delineate watershed boundaries. ArcHydro is an industry standard program that uses elevation data to determine the boundary of a watershed. The result of the ArcHydro process is that the geographic extent of the elevation data is divided into contiguous polygon features that represent multiple subwatersheds, or drainage areas. Stream network data for the area of interest can be examined to determine which subwatersheds should be combined to represent the watershed for a given study area.
